Our Story

During early 2013 Seth and Joe (future co-founders of Simply Coding) were working together at a company they started discussing how important it was for them to have learned how to code. They were both very amazed that all throughout high school and college not once were they presented with a formal opportunity to learn computer science. Joe become very persistent on the idea to run a summer camp that coming summer teaching real website development to kids.

Finally in that same summer, Seth agreed and called on their old high school to provide them a computer lab. Next, we needed kids – this was actually the easy part. Because Joe is the 9th of 12 siblings, and at that time had over 60 nieces and nephews, we had a built in audience. They knew nothing and weren't all that interested in learning code (ha) but their parents promised they would be there every week to let us test our curriculum and teaching skills. Let's just say it was incredible and Simply Coding was born from that experience.

From there Simply Coding has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of students every year through after school programs, public and charter school curriculum, online at home, summer camps, troubled youth centers, Job Corps, prisons, and much more! The process hasn't changed. We pay attention to how our students react to the lesson and use that modify and edit our courses. We see right in front of our eyes how they negotiate our lessons and where they go first when getting on a computer.
