My daughters have found these programs enjoyable and challenging. “games” available, they are quite basic and focus more on introducing the concept of coding rather than the actual coding process and application. I would like to highlight two important aspects: 1) It’s crucial not to get stuck during the course. Even as someone who already has a good understanding of coding beyond the intended audience, I found it to be a valuable learning resource. Creative gaming is an excellent approach for children and beginners to learn coding. That being said, I have two minor complaints related to the user interface and experience. Firstly, the provided flash drive lacks an explanation, and I initially spent some time wondering about its purpose and how to launch it. It turns out that the drive is intended to be blank and serve as a shuttle drive. A simple note clarifying this would have sufficed. Secondly, once you navigate to the “My Courses” section online, it is not immediately clear that the courses are located within a folder in the left column. A small icon or statement indicating this would have been helpful. These are minor concerns that could easily be addressed to enhance the user experience, but they do not significantly impact the overall quality of the program.

As the father of an 11-year-old who would typically prefer watching YouTube or playing iPhone games over focusing on learning, I understand the challenge. I encouraged my son to try programming his own game, and although there are many YouTube videos and resources available, they never seemed to stick with him. The main issue was that the beginning, setup, and instructions often lost his interest before he could experience the fun and proud moments of completing a project. However, this particular product/course had a brilliant structure and presentation that managed to capture and hold my son’s attention. It cleverly incorporated little funny clicks or side animations throughout the steps, which helped keep his young mind focused while reading the instructions. Moreover, each step offered a “reward” or sense of accomplishment that motivated him to take the next step eagerly. My son started this course at 5 pm yesterday, and I had to tell him to stop at 10 pm because he was as hooked on it as he usually is on his favorite devices. He was so engrossed that he even took his computer to school to work on it after classes and during the car ride. Remarkably, he finished creating a Pong game before the second afternoon at home, and now he’s struggling with deciding what to do next. The bottom line is that, for at least a day (but I believe it will last longer), a negative addiction has been replaced with a positive learning focus and addiction. It has been a transformation from an unproductive and disengaged state to a highly engaged and enthusiastic one. This has been possible because the instructions provided enough “engagement” to keep him on track and motivated.
